At 66,000 square feet, the building housed a carpenter shop, machine shops, warehouses, a powerhouse, grinding shop, and steel storage bins. At this time, the Foundry Buildings sprawl over 26 acres, and has 9 historic buildings. In total, there is now more than 600,000 square feet.
2. Brown & Sharpe created many inventions within the Foundry’s walls, including the first automatic machine for graduating rules. The company still exists, though it has moved to Pawtucket.
3. When Antonio Guerra first purchased The Foundry Buildings in 1964, he originally rented out spaces for as little as 35 cents per square foot! Using that money, he redeveloped the first building in 1987.
